Celebrating Yom Yerushalayim

Cape Town’s jubilee celebration of Yom Yerushalayim was hosted by the SA Zionist Federation Cape Town and the Union of Orthodox Synagogues, and kicked off with an emotional Mincha / Ma’ariv service at the Sephardi shul.

The evening continued in the Weizmann School Hall where chairman of the SAZF Cape Council Rowan Polovin, spoke about Jerusalem as the eternal and undivided capital city for the Jewish People and Israeli Ambassador to South Africa, Arthur Lenk, explained about how the Jewish people are connected to Jerusalem in so many different ways. Stan Ziman, who was present at the event, was honored for his bravery in volunteering in 1967, together with many other South Africans who volunteered to travel to Israel and assist wherever possible. Rabbi Doron Kline, CEO of Telfed, was the keynote speaker for the evening and gave a heartfelt account of how the war had been miraculously won and how the ultimate victory of the recapture of Jerusalem was achieved.
