CJC Kids Resource

While the internet has no shortage of links to resources to keep your kids busy during the COVID-19 pandemic, they are scattered all over the place and some seem a bit unrealistic (I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the emotional capacity for cleaning up a giant foam spewing volcano from my kitchen right now, and I need to save my strength for when home schooling starts again next term).

The CJC has collated a bunch of doable, fun resources, all in one place for you to keep kids busy during this time. Feel free to send suggestions that you come across to editor@ctjc.co.za and we will add them to the list!

The Little, Little House (Read by Caryn Katz)
Joseph and his family live in a very little house — too little, if you ask Joseph. But then his wise Aunty Bella suggests he bring his chickens inside, and the rooster, and the goat! How do you think that made Joseph feel?

Mitzvah Pizza (Read by Vicky Friedman)
When they go on outings together, daddy brings the money and Missy brings the fun. But this time Missy is bringing the money, too — and she’s trying to decide what to do with it! When they go to a pizzeria that helps feed everyone, including people who can’t pay, Missy makes a new friend – and has an idea.

Are We Still Friends? (Read by Vicky Friedman)
Beatrice and Abel are the finest of friends – until a misunderstanding gets in the way. How will they reconcile in time for a fresh start in the new year? Every young child (and many grownups!) will relate to this dilemma.

It’s a Mitzvah, Grover (Read by Terri Pillemer)
Grover knows how to do a mitzvah — he helps clean up the playground. But no one knows more
about trash than Moishe Oofnik. Will he help out too?

The Cholent Brigade (Read by Duncan Gilman, Harold Grinspoon Foundation)
Duncan reads “The Cholent Brigade,” written by Michael Herman, illustrated by Sharon Harmer, and published by Kar-Ben Publishing. Want to make some cholent of your own? Check out these recipes to try: https://pjlibrary.org/beyond-…/…/july-2017/lets-make-cholent
