Have you heard of Moishe House?

The Moishe House Cape Town team: Lauren Joffe, Mitch Freedman and Abbi Berkovitz

In case this is the first time you have heard of Moishe House, we’re a group of young Jewish residents that host 5-6 events every month both in and out of our home, for young Jewish adults, aged 22-32.

Our events fall under Social, Tikkun Olam, Jewish learning or Jewish culture. Last month we had a paintball event, hosted a shiur in our sukkah in our courtyard, finally put up our Mezuzah followed by snacks and drinks, helped make Jedi Tedi’s and had one of our famous themed Shabbat dinners, this time around a Halloween-themed Shabbat dinner!

The start of September, saw the Moishe House Cape Town team preparing and packing for Moishe House’s International Conference of 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden. We met up with many other International Moishe House residents from some of the 128 Moishe House’s around the world — Vienna, Australia, Russia, Beijing to name a few, for a jam-packed weekend!

We started with Tikkun Olam Thursday where we helped clean up a small local Jewish cemetery in Stockholm that had been neglected. Many locals stopped to thank the team and we even made the local Jewish newspaper in Stockholm! Some of the weekend sessions revolved around how to ensure we always host inclusive events, how to make Tikkun Olam as interactive as possible and how to handle hosting so many events in short spaces of time.

We love welcoming old and new faces to our home and events. If you’re keen to get involved in our community, feel free to contact us on Facebook (Moishe House Cape Town) Instagram(@moishehousect) or email.(moishehousect@gmail.com)
