Baby Bag Moms Mitzvah Club 2019

Four Organisations came together to start Mitzvah Month 2019

The Union of Jewish Women (UJW) Cape Simcha Group in collaboration with Mensch, Herzlia Constantia Primary, Grass Boots Football Club and The Samurai Karate Dojo Plumstead Sensei and Black Belts created a morning of games and sporting fun for 60 children from the UJW Cape Simcha Group’s Noluntu Soup Kitchen, Khayelitsha.

The Noluntu Soup Kitchen children and Herzlia Constantia soccer, karate and netball teams had an incredible day at Herzlia Constantia sporting grounds on 3 November 2019, showing unbelievable sportsmanship and sharing invaluable skills training, making it a day to remember.

On 26 November a group of 12 year old girls from the Mitzvah Club and their moms joined UJW Cape at Stonehaven to pack Baby Bags for the UJW Cape Baby Bag Project.

It was a wonderful afternoon involving these young girls, giving them an opportunity to see what can be done to help those in need in our community. The girls and their moms packed 60 bags filled with toiletries, blankets, clothes and much more; everything a new mom needs to take care of her baby.

The UJW Cape Baby Bag Project has been successfully run for the past 2 years, handing out over 500 bags at Somerset Hospital to high risk new moms. Many of these moms face daunting challenges, some of poverty and single parent homes and most of them leave hospital with nothing for their babies.

On 5 December we had the privilege of delivering the baby bags to delightful, thankful and very appreciative moms at Somerset Hospital. A huge thank you to The Graham Beck Foundation and Weizmann Primary for their very generous donations to the UJW Cape’s Baby Bag Project and to the Mitzvah Girls and moms for getting involved and giving of their time to pack the bags.
