2011 November

The community is as busy as ever with events, seminars, simchas and celebrations.

The Chronicle reflects all this and so much more. From the Board’s multitude of activities to the Holocaust Centre’s art exhibition; from Jewish Care Cape’s AGM to YAD’s Business Breakfast, community members across the spectrum are involved in Jewish life every day.

What is the ‘soundtrack’ to these many activities? Music is such an integral part of Judaism, and this month, Our Arts and Culture page features two very different but equally important forms of Jewish music. We interview Klezmer musician Matthew Reid about his long-awaited CD (to be released in December), and discuss why Klezmer music is such an important part of Jewish life. We also look at Israeli musician Idan Reichel, and how he and his band are bringing Israel’s music to the world.

We hope that this issue will inspire you to bring more music into your life, to listen to Klezmer and buy the Playing with Fire CD, and to celebrate the sound of simcha – all while bringing creativity to the community!
