Pippa Shaper speaks on surviving tragedy and authentic resilience

Psychological Services Coordinator for Nechama Sarit Swisa, Executive Director Avigail Popack, PR Committee member Hayley Pogrund and Chairman Barry Pogrund with guest speaker Pippa Shaper

It took courage to accept the ‘new normal’ of life after devastation and death befell Pippa Shaper and her family.

Having a child born with a rare disease, and losing two of her children, could have left Pippa a very bitter person, but the women I encounted at the Nechama breakfast seemed anything but.

She explained to the audience in her talk titled, Authentic Resilience — Surviving Tragedy, that although she went through various stages of grief over a long period of time and faced anger, depression and dismay, she realised she had within her the ability to regain her life, albeit changed. In the final analysis, she pointed to faith, family and friends, which got her through dark times.  It was an honour to meet her.

Thank you to our co-ordinators, Shana Isserow, Hayley Pogrund and Terry Locketz.  To Newmark Hotels for an incredible raffle prize and to Coffeetime for the scrumptious breakfast.
