Super Seniors make their mark in Croatia

The South African Masters tennis team

Shirley Engers and Maeve Samuels just returned from Umag, Croatia where they represented South Africa in the Super Seniors World Tennis Championships in the 65 to 75 age divisions. Shirley’s 65-70-year-old age group came 8th out of 15 countries and Maeve’s 75-80-year-old age group came 4th out of 10 countries.

Both have represented South Africa before, travelling to many different parts of the world. Two years ago Shirley played in Orlando, Florida in the brand new tennis academy where they had 100 tennis courts. Maeve’s favorite tennis venue was in Turkey where they had 60 tennis courts on the beach with restaurants nearby.

Shirley and Maeve played together at Keurboom tennis club 40 years ago but Maeve now plays at the Glen Tennis Club, and Shirley has been at Camps Bay Tennis Club for over 30 years. They were both in the team that represented South Africa at the Maccabi Games in 1993.
