Zinn brothers make generous donation to pay it forward

For some time now, the Cape Board has been asking past students to assist us in growing our funds so that we can continue to fund the many Jewish students who require bursaries in order to get a tertiary education.

When Daniel and Richard Zinn received our letter of appeal, they responded immediately and powerfully. Their desire was to each sponsor 50% of a current bursary for a student studying either medicine (as Richard did) or a business science degree ( Daniel’s chosen degree.)

Daniel explained their decision: “The South African Jewish community supported us when we needed it. We are glad to be in a position to give something back and hope that others can join us in helping maximize the potential of young people in our community.”

The Zinn brothers chose not to remain anonymous specifically so that the students receiving their bursary will be able to contact them for any additional support, advice or mentoring with their studies.

Together with Richard and Daniel, the Cape Board have now created the ‘Zinn Family Fund’ and will be growing this in the future, so that we will be able to accommodate more students choosing these paths of study. Daniel was a co-founder and portfolio manager at a New York based hedge fund, Orange Capital. He most recently founded a technology-driven commercial lender, XPRS Capital. He now lives with his wife and two children in Los Angeles, California.

Richard works at the Helen Joseph Hospital as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. He will be moving to Melbourne in September to do a 1-year Micro surgical Fellowship at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Richard currently resides in Johannesburg.

The Cape Board is grateful to the Zinn brothers for their generosity of spirit and their foresight and we look forward to working with them to give other young members of our community the opportunity to create the future of their dreams.
