Lion of judah: The gift of giving

The Lion of Judah is the International Women’s Division of Keren Hayesod.

It is particularly focused on women who give a specific contribution in their own names, in addition to what they jointly contribute together with their husbands to the United Jewish Campaign.

A Lion of Judah meeting recently took place at the new Marly Hotel in Camps Bay. Cape Town’s Lion of Judah, co-chaired by Nina Kovensky and Patricia Fine, was honoured to host Keren Hayesod’s International Woman’s Division President and a Lion of Judah champion herself, Nelly de Bobrow. Nelly hails from Sao Paolo, Brazil and is internationally respected for the sterling and inspirational leadership she brings to the Women’s Division. She was joined by Keren Hayesod’s Director for English Speaking Countries, and frequent visitor to Cape Town’s United Jewish Campaign, Irit Barash. We enjoyed a morning tea with existing Lions and some prospective supporters too. Lions are recognised by their special lion-shaped pins or necklaces, which they proudly wear on such occasions, indicating their significant level of support for Keren Hayesod projects. The project adopted by the Lion of Judah Cape Town is the Youth Futures initiative, which has sites located all over Israel. We have chosen to support a multi-cultural, vulnerable community in Lod. We were also privileged to be addressed by renowned Women’s Health Specialist, Dr Wulf Utian, who enlightened us with an often witty look at living better and living longer, by adding quality to life by following certain ‘Mind, Body and Spirit’ principles.
