May 2026

April was a month of both celebration and commemoration. With both Yom Hashoah and Yom Hazikaron falling during the month, as well as Yom Ha’atzmaut, our community was kept busy at a number of events.

A number of articles relating to arts and culture are included this month. From an interesting historical footnote about South Africa’s first participation in the Venice Biennale, to the legacy of Wolf Kibel, a peek into a family art collection, and the ever-popular Aviva Pelham returning to the stage, there’s plenty to enjoy.

It’s becoming rare to hear a reasoned, well thought-through argument about the Middle East conflict and its impact on Jews throughout the world. That’s why the opinion piece penned by Mzoxolo Mpolase is such a breath of fresh air. Take a look at it here.
