2010 February

We are very happy to have you reading us again after a most unfortunate website technical ‘breakdown’ last month, over which we at the Chronicle had no control. This was particularly disappointing for us as the December/January paper, which came out well on time, was our very special 25th anniversary celebratory issue.

Not only was it our largest edition ever, but it had a very striking glossy 8-page ‘wrapper’, with pictures going back to the very first issue in November 1984, providing a tapestry of special moments and including personalities and members of our community who have filled our pages for quarter of a century.

Well, we’re now into 2010 and even deeper into our 26th year, and we return in more modest size, bearing in mind that many of those who would normally ‘puff up’ our pages returned to work past our deadline date in the first week of January.

Still we Capetonians never sleep, as you will see as you read on.

Quite a few of the reports actually deal with the end of December and Channukah celebrations, which missed last year’s deadline in November. Deadlines are always problematic in a monthly publication, where some items may seem to be featured well ‘past their sell by date’!

Bearing that in understanding mind, join us in this first edition of a year that is scheduled to heat up somewhat here, not only for World Cup soccer fans!

The items we have chosen to highlight below are other than those on the front page, these latter being our major moments. Indeed, the items below are those directed to your attention in the ‘Inside this Issue’ panel at the bottom of the page.
