2010 September

This September, Rosh Hashanah issue is very largely a GREAT BIG, COLOURFUL WISH – to and from all ‘players’ in the Cape Town communal arena.

Individuals and families, organisations, rabbinical leaders, and very notably, local business, have taken this opportunity to express goodwill and share warm wishes for a happy and healthy and peaceful 5771. The greetings vary in expression but the feeling is one.

Yes, the issue does come out earlier than usual, with September yet to grace its threshold. This is to ensure that by the 9th all will have read the greetings and the advertisers will have had fair exposure.

A major event that is not included in the body of the paper is the Herzlia Gala Evening which was held on Sunday 8 August, when the paper was already completed. At time of writing we hope that the planned special supplement that was to be included with the posted paper will eventuate. Failing that, one would most certainly see it on the Herzlia website, so for overseas ex-Herzlians, that is something to search out.

We do wish the school – the ‘jewel in the communal crown’ – the heartiest mazeltov on 70 wonderful years of growth and excellence – and many more!

Other special events, including, most notably the exceptional Limmud 2010 Cape Town weekend, are featured on page one, with further highlight moments indicated below.

An awesome download, but worthwhile we hope.

And finally, our warmest wishes for all readers and families and our Jewish communities – for a sweet year of happiness and peace for us all – in South Africa, throughout the diaspora, and in our beloved State of Israel.
