Seven Grade 12 pupils from Herzlia High School were recently filmed in discussion with Holocaust survivors Ella Blumenthal and Miriam Lichterman.
An edited version of the discussion will form a key component of a DVD entitled Remember Not to Forget, which will be the result of a project conducted by the Cape Town Holocaust Centre.
The project came about through the generosity of Philip Krawitz, who recognised that because Holocaust survivors are in their twilight years, there will be fewer opportunities for Jewish children to interact directly with them, and that eventually we will be living in a world where there are no survivors.
It is hoped that the DVD will become a treasured keepsake for every Jewish school child in Cape Town. In addition to the filmed discussion, the DVD will include a photograph of each child together with their class and a survivor. Also included is the documentary Survivor Testimony, made especially for the Cape Town Holocaust Centre’s permanent exhibition. The DVD will be launched towards the end of the year.
