YAD recently hosted an exciting Business Breakfast with Nando’s co-founder Robbie Brozin.

Robbie shared the story of this very successful brand, interspersed with video clips of the often irreverent, topical and entertaining advertisements for the franchise. They are part and parcel of the success of Nando’s, often communicating what we all wish we had the courage to say!

Brozin is engaging, entertaining and humble — a passionate and approachable entrepreneur with a love of spicy chicken, people and philanthropy. Today, he is no longer involved in the day-to-day operations of Nando’s, having employed a CEO. His focus is more on the humanitarian arena, positioning Africa at the forefront of global awareness and philanthropy, particularly within the international Nando’s stores. Nando’s had joined forces with Kingsley Holgate in fighting malaria on the continent and donating mosquito nets in high-risk malaria areas. In addition, the restaurants sold the Relate anti-malaria affiliation bracelets to raise funds and awareness for this solvable problem.

Brozin lauded the work of YAD, which engage young adults in philanthropy. This is in order to ensure sustainability of this remarkably caring and effective Cape Town Jewish community. Brozin led by example, making a personal contribution to the campaign.

The very large audience — testimony to the affection for the brand and the excellent reputation of Brozin — found him to be exceptionally entertaining, and laughter was the main ingredient of the morning besides for the scrumptious spread laid on by caterer Merle Rubin. Investec once again ensured that this stellar event was made possible by their generous sponsorship of YAD Business Breakfast events.
