In the sweltering heat of 36 degrees and above, 2000 participants from across the country gathered at Mitah Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberly for the annual SAJCC.
18 Jewish children from Herzlia High School, Middle School, and all of the Primary Schools as well as Phyllis Jowell, Reddam Constantia, and Camps Bay Primary represented Western Province.
The number of Jewish children participating significantly exceeds previous years. It seems as if there has been a resurgence of interest in chess in our primary schools.
Western Province fared exceptionally well with eight teams obtaining gold medals.
Four teams obtained silver medals and two received bronze. Both WP under-18A team and WP under-18B team received gold medals.
