UCT’s rugby team, the Ikey Tigers, were crowned world champions after defeating Trinity College Dublin by 17-0 in the inaugural World University Rugby Cup.
Kevin Musikanth is the first Jewish rugby coach to win a World University Rugby Cup which he brought back to Cape Town where it will remain for the next four years.
The Tournament took place at Oxford University in the U.K. and included teams from England, Russia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Ireland and British Columbia. Kevin’s team progressed through the pool stages beating Trinity College from Ireland 17-0 in the final. Winning this Rugby Cup was a lifetime experience for the players and management alike and added to Kevin’s success in winning the 2014 Varsity Cup in dramatic fashion.
Kevin’s book Always believe in magic in collaboration with Jonathan Kaplan and Tim Noakes brought out after the 2014 campaign, described the whole journey and has become a popular rugby memoir to the rugby fraternity and fans alike.
Head Coach Kevin Musikanth and Paul Cohen (full back) also took the opportunity to visit one of the oldest Sephardic shuls in London where they were welcomed warmly wearing their UCT blazers.
