SA cricket coach takes over as fielding coach for West Indies

Ryan Maron, former Western Province cricketer, University of Cape Town Head Coach and founder of the Cricket School of Excellence, has replaced Andre Coley as West Indiesโ€™ fielding coach.ย 

A resident of Cape Townโ€™s Southern Suburbs, Maronโ€™s most recent coaching role with the Afghanistan national sideย saw him compete against theย Windies in a One Day series in July.ย After seeing his impressive coaching skills at work, the Caribbean side approached him to work with the teamย in England ahead of their three-test series which begins onย August 17. The side will also face Ireland in a one-day international.

The former opening batsman played 18 first-class matches for Western Province in South Africa and has a wide range of coaching experience with some of the top sides in South Africa and abroad including the the Dolphins, VRA and ACCย Cricket Clubs in Holland, several clubs in the U.K. and Rondebosch Boyโ€™s High School.

โ€œThis is a massive privilege to be involved in West Indiesย cricketย and Iโ€™m delighted to join the Windies coaching staff,โ€ he said. โ€œI have followed West Indiesย cricketย over the years as a kid and then as a player and a coach and Iโ€™m just happy to be offered this opportunity to make a contribution as a coach.

โ€œThe game in the West Indies has a great history and here in this group, we have a young bunch ofย cricketersย who will perform well. Iโ€™m also looking forward to working with the ODI and T20 sides as we look to climb back up the ladder in worldย cricket.โ€
