Enjoying Summer days

CJSA members have enjoyed the month of February with the most wonderful programme being offered at every branch – whether it is the weekly programme of arts, crafts, bridge, kalooki, Yiddish or exercises or the numerous outside activities that were offered to everyone.

Numerous speakers have given us the opportunity to hear their stories – each of them passionate and interesting. Members in Muizenberg heard Melanie Uranovsky speak about Koleinu creating an awareness on abuse which is currently so rife throughout the world. Wynberg members enjoyed Lisa Sandler give a special account of her time as a recent volunteer in Israel giving a hands-on account of how people are coping with the current situation in Israel.

Sol Kreiner, former mayor of Cape Town regaled Sea Point members with tales of his travels whilst holding the position of Cape Town Mayor. This was followed by a delicious lunch and Milnerton members had Beryl Eichenberger in conversation with Dr Nadia Kamies chatting about being brought up as a Coloured in Cape Town with the book she has written on the subject “Off Centre and out of Focus”. Lunch was also served thereafter. Milnerton also celebrated Valentine’s Day with everyone dressing in red and white and a fabulous lunch being made by Sonia Norrie.  Our final talk of the month was on Wills and Bequests in our West Coast branch. Barry Pogrund imparted his wealth of knowledge with humour and compassion to our members, answering the many questions that were put to him.

Our members really enjoy the variety of outings we offer and we took full advantage of the weather to enjoy them during February where at many of the restaurants there were beautiful outdoor areas to enjoy while savouring the various delicacies on offer. Coffee Time, Chardonnay Deli, Ons Huisie and Café Riteve were visited and the exhibition by artist Moran Kliger was enjoyed on that occasion too.

The highlights of the month were the outing on the City Sightseeing Red Bus when 70 members boarded the bus and toured the peninsula, stopping off in Hout Bay for a delicious fish and chips lunch and the Arts and Craft Exhibition hosted in Sea Point where members of all branches displayed beautiful paintings, mosaics, cards and knitwear, and so many people came through the door to enjoy the exhibition and socialise  with members.

Our Goudini break is next month and bookings are closed. We look forward to this break every year. There is always the opportunity to have fun, meet new acquaintances, renew friendships and broaden the horizon when you visit any of our branches. We encourage you to take the first step as it might even change your life!
