During February eight Herzlia boys visited Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, to play their favourite sport, soccer. As members of the Legends Camps Bay Soccer School, they were selected to compete at the Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup 2024.
Led by coaches Anees Abbas, Oko Boloti and Gary Saven, who matriculated from Herzlia in 1986, and managed by the Chairperson of the Camps Bay Football Club, Gina Isserow, another former Herzlian (Class of 1990), they spent six days in Abu Dhabi training and competing with their team.
The event attracted 165 international teams and brought together over 2 200 players. The Camps Bay contingent was the only team from South Africa.
Winning every game and conceding only one goal during the entire tournament, the team made it to the finals. After such a strong winning spree, it was unfortunate that, after a 0-0 draw in the final, they lost on penalties, ending second in the U12 age group. The team was awarded the prestigious silver medal, a proud achievement.
