Join Mensch this July for an immersive, group volunteering experience infused with Jewish learnings and cross-cultural connections! We will be volunteering as a group, once a month, at the Hout Bay community farm, Love in a Bowl, which supports vulnerable residents in Imizamo Yethu township. We will further deepen the volunteering experience, by meeting once a month to learn and reflect through a Jewish lens with professional Jewish educators in-person or online. We will dive into questions like ‘What is Jewish about volunteering or ‘service’ to others?’ ‘How do we reconcile our support for the Jewish community and for those in communities we live within?’ And more!
We are partnering with Love in a Bowl community for the hands-on volunteering component, a non-profit organisation focused on growing community and celebrating diversity. The farm’s sustainable model of harvesting and selling vegetables helps to support the compassionate distribution of nutritious cooked meals to the most vulnerable in the communities of Hangberg and Imizamo Yethu. It is also a hub of learning and psycho-social support for youth not enrolled in school. Through your volunteer experience you can expect to learn about all things green! Growing food, composting, land restoration. We will also be volunteering alongside local community members allowing for learning about, with and from the communities being served.
The Mensch Volunteer programme aims to create a safe, accessible, yet impactful volunteering and learning experience. A chance to develop your volunteering skills and expand your community and network of like-minded people.
