Before the outbreak of the Six-Day War in 1967, the Tel Aviv Chevra Kadisha dug up the entire Yad Eliyah soccer stadium and prepared it as a mass grave for the expected thousands of casualties. In Jerusalem, the Chevra Kadisha did the same to the public parks of Bayit Ve’Gan.
Thankfully, for Sukkot that year, they handed out all the wood from coffins they had prepared to use as walls for building Sukkot.
We remembered this historical curiosity at the beginning of the war with Iran. A radio announcer spoke about the mass morgue set up near Latrun on the way to Jerusalem, built to house the thousands of deaths expected from the avalanche of Iranian ballistic missiles.
We are living through historic times comparable to the Six-Day War! The seismic shift is evident. Israel, with essential assistance from the USA, is creating a new Middle East and a safer world for everyone! ●
