Zach Margs, burgers & schmoozing… A Cape Town kind of night!
Our hearts (and hall) were full at Zach Margs’ comedy night, which was an evening of laughs, Spur burgers (kosher for one night only!) and community connection.
Despite the Cape Town rain, the hall was packed, the energy was high and the laughter nonstop. Zach delivered sharp, smart, and very Jewish comedy that hit all the right notes.
So special to see so many alumni, parents, staff and new faces in the crowd and our community coming together. The burgers were a hit, the schmoozing was strong, and we’re hoping this is just the first of many more catch-ups, reconnections and shared laughs. Thanks to The Herzlia Foundation Trust and the UHS Board for making the evening possible and for backing this kind of joyful, community-building initiative. Keep an eye out… we might just make this a tradition!
Chai to Chai: a celebration of life, learning and legacy
“Noooo… I don’t want to leave. I want to go back!” were the sweet words of a Herzlia Grade 1 as this year’s Chai to Chai event came to an end on a bright Cape Town morning filled with Lag BaOmer energy! And we felt the same way.
Chai to Chai is one of Herzlia’s most meaningful traditions and a celebration of the cyclical journey Herzlia pupils make from often their very first day at 18 months… to their final year at 18 years. In Hebrew, chai means ‘life’, and it also represents the number 18. So Chai to Chai honours the life-changing path from our youngest toddlers to our graduating Matrics. It’s a journey that embodies not only education, but community, identity and belonging.
This year, as our 2025 Matrics welcomed the newest ‘big kids’ in Grade 1, it was clear that Chai to Chai is more than just a moment, but a legacy. Many of our Matrics once stood exactly where those Grade 1s now stand, looking up to older Herzlians who shaped their early school years. Now, they’re the ones passing it forward… L’dor V’dor – from generation to generation – and another reminder that Herzlia isn’t just a school. It’s a family, a foundation and a home where generations of Jewish children have grown, learned, and thrived.
As our Matrics prepare to step into the world, they do so with a deep sense of where they come from. And our youngest pupils begin their journey knowing they are part of something bigger. From chai to chai. From generation to generation. From strength
to strength. ●
