A message from Dorron Kline, CEO of Telfed
As we approach Rosh Hashanah, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the year that was – one of the most challenging we’ve faced in recent memory.
At Telfed, we responded the way we know best: with action, compassion and a deep commitment to our South African Olim community.
This past year, we expanded our focus on emotional wellbeing, launching R U OK? – a new mental health initiative for English-speakers in Israel. We also hosted targeted webinars and workshops for new Olim, families and children, providing support, tools and connection in these uncertain times.
We increased scholarship funding for 500 students and monthly financial aid to 400 needy SA Olim to meet the rising cost of living and ensure that no family slips through the cracks. As always, we provide support with discretion and dignity.
Community-building has remained central to our mission. Regional volunteers have welcomed new Olim with open arms, while social events, coffee clubs and national volunteering projects have kept our community connected and engaged. More than 3 600 people attended 109 Telfed events during the past year. For Olim children, we offered everything from Chanukah fun to summer workshops and student mentors through our PRAS programme – because supporting families means supporting the next generation.
What I’m most proud of is the community itself. True to the South African spirit of ‘chesed’, our Olim didn’t just look inward during crisis, they rolled up their sleeves and gave back. From rebuilding efforts to rehabilitation support across the country, our community has shown what it means to be both grateful and giving.
At Telfed, we’ve always said that Aliyah is not the end of the journey – it’s the beginning. It’s a path filled with challenges, surprises and no shortage of paperwork – but it’s also filled with purpose, pride and belonging.
If you’ve ever considered making the move – join us. Yes, it has its ups and downs. But it’s one meaningful, crazy ride, and we’re traversing it together.
