The Cape Town Jewish community includes a unique congregation known as Kehilat Tikva Tova.
For the past 20 years, the congregation has run Egalitarian Orthodox services, which follow the Orthodox Service for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, while embracing gender equality. Men and women count for a minyan, daven, are given an Aliyah to read from the Torah, and all may enjoy the honour of opening the Ark.
Our services are participative (and somewhat shorter than most traditional services) while the sermons are directed at making our tradition relevant to the context of our times.
