Staff of the various communal organisations housed in the Samson Centre and Hatfield Campus recently celebrated a milestone for their colleague, Louise Segall, as she marked 35 years of service to the community.
Louise has for many years been ‘the voice on the other end of the phone’: anyone who dials in to the main landline number for the Samson Centre is bound to recognise a voice they’ve heard often before. Louise has been dealing with the public for a long, long time – providing assistance and guidance to callers; directing calls to the appropriate organisation; managing the communal diary; and welcoming visitors to the building – among many other tasks. She’s a face and a voice that many in our community are bound to remember.
Speaking at a staff tea given in her honour, Louise spoke with pride of her many years of work for the community, and recalled the people and the events that have shaped her 35 years of service. “I had the privilege of interacting with some of the iconic leaders of our community over the years – people like Leon Wilder, Eliot Osrin, Izzy Wolman, to name a few.”
Louise has seen a long history of changes in our communal organisations. She also well remembers the move from Leeusig House in Town – where she worked for the first 10 years – to the Samson Centre in Hatfield Street. “It was an exciting time,” she says. “During the construction of our new building, many of us would take a walk from Leeusig House during our lunch hour, going through the Company Gardens, to see the progress with the building.”
Louise has enjoyed every minute of her work life, and hopes to continue for many more years. ●
