Statement by the Cape SAJBD and CSO Cape Town
We are outraged and heartbroken by the horrific terror attack that took place yesterday at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, where the Jewish community, celebrating the festival of Chanukah, was brutally targeted and murdered.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Australian Jewish community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were murdered, and we pray for the full and speedy recovery of all those who were injured.
In light of these tragic events, we wish to reassure our community that the Cape South African Jewish Board of Deputies and CSO Cape Town remain ever vigilant. Our security posture is on high alert, and we continue to work closely with all relevant stakeholders to protect our community, all Jewish events, and our way of life.
We therefore encourage the community to continue attending the various Chanukah-related events taking place over the coming days, knowing that the safety and well-being of the Jewish community remain our highest priority.
We will continue to stand firm against those who hate us and seek to cause us harm.
