In My Pocket at Herzlia Primary Schools

Herzlia Weizmann teachers with Eli and Jill Rabinowitz

Former Capetonians, Jill and Eli Rabinowitz from Perth, Australia, recently presented their In My Pocket project to Grade 5 learners at Herzlia Highlands and Weizmann Primary schools. This follows their visit to Cape Town to initiate the project in 2024.

The project focuses on 7½-year-old Dorrith Sim’s escape from Germany to Scotland on the Kindertransport in July 1939, highlighting personal attributes such as kindness, empathy and inclusivity. Children participate in a unique creative art workshop, and each child receives a small edition of the book that tells the story.

Starting in Australia and South Africa in 2023, the project has now grown to include ORT schools in Lithuania, Latvia and Mexico, King David Schools and Yeshiva in Johannesburg. Jewish schools in the UK and New Zealand will join the project in 2026.
