Israel wins epic battle vs the Italians

On Sunday 15 May, a perfect autumn day, on the foothills of Table Mountain the Jewish community of Cape Town came alive to the sounds of laughter, cheers and great joy.

The community’s 175th Anniversary five-a- side soccer tournament aimed to bring us together through sport, and it was a massive success. Moms, dads, bobbas and zaides descended on Herzlia’s Van Riebeeck sports field to witness a day of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Our youth took this fantastic opportunity to display their skills and abilities. The teams, sporting their 175th anniversary t-shirts, scored many great goals and pulled off many great saves but it was the Cryuff turns and step-overs that got the fans going wild. From across both the Jewish and broader community, from the very young to the not so young, people united through sport to share stories and even a delicious hot dog along the way. These days are not complete without the sacrifice of community members and thanks need to go to Albert Glass and his team from Gardens Shul for putting together such an amazing event.
