Even though we have only completed a couple of months of this year, there have been so many special events, outings and special mornings that we find that members are actually asking us to hold fire as they need to catch their breath. I suppose that it is far better than being at a loss for things to do and being bored.
In Sea Point we hosted our housewarming morning with a room full of guests enjoying the presentation by Joy Wilkin on Yiddish theatre in Cape Town. Each person presented us with a donation towards our house warming and we will now be able to purchase lovely cushions and other necessities. The mezuzahs were affixed under the watchful eye of Rebbetzin Sarah Wineberg and members and guests interacted and enjoyed this wonderful new space.
We also hosted the Temple Israel Chesed Band on a Sunday afternoon just after the hectic week of the appointment of our new President and everyone was feeling rather frazzled. Their beautiful renditions of various tunes that are heard at a Friday evening service uplifted one and all and the concert was good for body and soul, not to mention the delicious tea and socialising that was enjoyed afterwards.
We are pleased to say that our documentary film Leah, Teddy and the Mandolin was very successful in Cape Town and played to full houses. The film is now being shown in Johannesburg and there has been such interest in taking it overseas to be shown at a number of venues. How exciting for those who have worked so hard to make this a reality.
Our monthly Twilight Suppers are always well supported and the recent Shabbat Suppers were hosted at Marais Road, Claremont and Milnerton and were enjoyed by all. We welcomed a number of visitors to the dinners and hope that these evenings will encourage them to join CJSA so that they can become part of a special family. Our caterers go out of their way to make the Shabbats an evening to remember and the fact that we offer transport to and from the evening should not deter anyone from sharing a Shabbat with us.
Members enjoyed a lovely morning in Claremont to celebrate Purim and the nursery schools entertained members at some of the centers where they are always welcomed by members who love interacting with the children. We realise how important it is to have intergenerational mornings which are good for both the members and children who love entertaining them.
Our CJSA Kiddush Wine. Kosher all year and including Pesach is now available. This is our major fundraiser for the year and this year, we hope that community members who have previously not supported us will do so now. The wine has the hechsher on the label so it is a great gift for anyone for Pesach.
Our Committee, Professional Team and all staff join me in wishing everyone a meaningful and Kosher Pesach.
