The changing times…

Bnei Akiva Gurim party

As the wise Bob Dylan once sang, “The times they are a-changin’”.

With everyone stuck at home during lockdown, Bnei Akiva had to adapt, change and innovate. With the efforts of our amazing council, we have done just that. We recently ran our first event for our Gurim Chanichim over Zoom. Though everyone was only present vitually, nothing stopped them participating in all sorts of crazy challenges and games. Though this way of running an event is indeed unique, it was a new and exciting experience for us all and has helped us glimpse into the future of how youth movements may run someday.

We also joined up with Beit-Midrash Morasha Shul to run a pre-Shavuot Tikkun Leil, which we can happily say was a success! Never before has Bnei Akiva Cape Town been part of such a beautiful and unique experience of online learning with so many different speakers to listen to. Community members as well as our madrich body were afforded the opportunity to run shiurim and learning sessions for people of all ages, and thus there was something for everyone. It’s truly beautiful to see that in such a lonely time in history, we are managing to stick together through our strong Jewish bonds. We are able to connect and learn in new ways that we didn’t think would work before. The future, though scary to contemplate as we don’t know what the world holds for us, is exciting nonetheless.
