Another busy month for the Cape Jewish Seniors Association (CJSA) during April, as we took advantage of the last balmy days of summer and enjoyed Pesach celebrations. This was also the time when we began settling into our new home.
Our members enjoyed crafts, a variety of games and numerous outings during the month, as well as some excellent speakers who gave of their time to address the members at their branches.
With few opportunities left to enjoy the outdoors before winter sets in, we decided to organise a special tour of the Peninsula for CJSA members. Logistics and planning was not easy but, thanks to the co-operation of City Tours, we boarded the Red Bus (also known as City Sightseeing Cape Town) at various venues. The highlight for all was the stopover in Hout Bay where we enjoyed a delicious fish and chips lunch before going home along the Atlantic Seaboard to be dropped off at our destinations. Members from all our branches certainly enjoyed being tourists in their own city.
Many of our members attended the concert by Ivor and Friends at the Sea Point Civic Centre, thoroughly enjoying the entertainment provided by a number of local artists.
In celebration of Pesach, the Union of Jewish Women prepared a special lunch for our members. This was held in our new premises at Stonehaven.
We have settled in well at Stonehaven and are delighted when people pop in. Everyone has commented positively on the space and on the warm and welcoming feeling experienced when one enters the building. So, please visit us to experience this yourself. We will also soon host a ‘Welcome to our new home’ event to introduce others to our premises.
As regards our events programme, we have revisited the approach we initiated at the start of the Covid-19 lockdown. It was a big concern to us that many of our members would miss having contact with other people, and so we moved our programmes online, hosting daily Zoom meetings. Now that we are able to interact face-to-face again, fewer people are opting for the online programme and so we have decided to reduce the number of online events.
However, for those still enjoying the virtual events, we continue to offer regular YouTube programmes. The links are sent out together with the CJSA weekly programme, and we encourage members to choose those that they are interested in and to do so at the time most convenient for them. The range of programmes includes a selection of documentaries, travel shows, movies and concerts.
With all that’s on offer from the CJSA, there is clearly no reason to be lonely or on your own, so we encourage you to enjoy what’s on by becoming a member of the organisation.
