Jewish Literary Festival brings UK journalist Jonathan Freedland to CT

The fifth South African Jewish Literary Festival will be held in Cape Town on public holiday Monday, 28 April 2025. Join us for a one-day feast of literature, current affairs, and thought-provoking dialogue catering to readers and book lovers alike.

We are thrilled to announce that acclaimed British author and journalist Jonathan Freedland will be joining us. He is a columnist for The Guardian newspaper, and presenter of the Guardian’s Politics Weekly America podcast, BBC Radio 4’s The Long View, and Unholy: Two Jews On The News podcast. Freedland is the author of the award-winning The Escape Artist: The Man Who Broke Out of Auschwitz to Warn the World, along with several thrillers under the pseudonym Sam Bourne.

We will also host a range of talented local and international authors with a Jewish or South African Jewish connection. Multiple sessions run concurrently throughout the day, offering a literal plethora of choices to suit a wide variety of tastes – from masterful novels to memoirs, Jewish history to business and tech, current affairs to stress and wellness, and so much more. JLF aims to foster constructive discussion with authors and journalists without promoting any political, religious or other agenda.

The event takes place in the heart of Cape Town, in partnership with the acclaimed Jacob Gitlin Library. Wordsworth Books will operate a pop-up bookshop on the day and should be able to offer every writer’s book. Watch this space for updated information about our authors and the programme in the build-up to JLF2025.
