We are eagerly planning many occasions to enjoy warmer days with suitable outings.
We recently hosted our annual Volunteer Thank You lunch. Guest entertainer Erez Shaked provided a Karaoke musical event. Many in the audience decided to participate, either singing solo or in couples, and everyone had lots of fun. Lunch was prepared by the CJSA team who enjoy the planning and preparation that goes into making this day special for our wonderful volunteers. We welcome anyone who has a few hours to spare to join our special volunteer group whatever services you can offer.
I have completed sifting through records of nearly 40 years of CJSA records to draw up a concise history of the formation of this special organisation. Nowhere in South Africa are senior citizens given so many opportunities to enjoy their retirement years. There is something for everyone: activities, outings, crafts or discussion groups. Each branch has a speciality that their members enjoy and we often organise interbranch mornings, allowing friends to meet up. Our Goudini breakaway is always a hit and an opportunity for people to get away in a safe environment, fully supervised and supported. Bookings are open for March 2025.
Our much-loved Muizenberg member, Cecile Buirski, made a brave decision to sell up and move from her home and special community to relocate to Switzerland to live with her daughter. Cecile has looked after CJSA members at every monthly meeting, catering for the Monday morning events when guest speakers visited the Muizenberg Shul. CJSA gave her a wonderful farewell with entertainment by Gordon Rocker, which added to the enjoyment of the event. Monique thanked her for her years of service to CJSA, and we all wish her much happiness and good health as she moves to her new home.
We are working closely with our colleagues at JCS as we move forward into the new Care Services model which will be launched at the Welfare AGM on 4 December. The AGM allows all Welfare organisations to showcase vital information about each agency’s most important attributes and what we are able to offer the community. It is so important to have community members attend these functions and we hope that many people do.
