Lessons for life

As mental health grows in importance, Rabbi Levi Y. Shmotkin shares timely and needed perspectives with South Africa’s Jewish community. On June 9, Shmotkin will be speaking in Cape Town about his new book Letters for Life: Guidance for Emotional Wellness from the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Based on over four decades of letters and private counselling of the Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson – Judaism’s most influential modern leader known simply as ‘the Rebbe’ – the book distils practical tools for maintaining mental health and navigating complex emotions.

“For those who’ve read the book, it’s an intriguing look into cultivating mental health. It’s an honour to have the author with us to share its insights,” said Rabbi David Masinter, director of Chabad of Johannesburg. “In these uncertain times, the Rebbe’s practical insights can help countless people dealing with stress, anxiety, depression and so much more.”

Over the course of four decades, the Rebbe provided countless individuals with guidance and support for their life’s challenges through letters and private counselling.

Shmotkin has become the world’s foremost expert on the Rebbe’s correspondences, meticulously analysing over ten thousand letters and distilling the wisdom contained within into practical tools for overcoming contemporary emotional challenges. ●
