High Holy Days (HHD) 5778: Bigger and better than ever

We welcome Rabbi Julia Margolis who joins us again for High Holy Days

his year at Temple Israel we are delighted to announce that not only do we have one visiting rabbi, but two!

Rabbi Julia Margolis is well known to you all having spent Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with us last year and she is joining us once again. Our second visitor is Rabbi Tamara Schagas, born and raised in Argentina until making Aliyah in 2003 and receiving her rabbinic smicha in 2015 from Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem. Both our visiting rabbis are very excited about being in our beautiful city and we look forward to them receiving a warm Cape Town welcome from all of you.

In other exciting news, thanks to a generous donation we have recruited Ari Sharfstein from Florida in the USA as the Shul’s first ever Musical Intern and Youth Worker. Ari will be with us for a year and is looking forward to bringing beautiful music to our congregation. Once again we hope that he will enjoy your hospitality during his stay with us.

Our programming also reflects our commitment to improving our service offering and will include weekly HHD newsletters for the weeks before Rosh Hashanah that will talk about HHD practices, more information about our visitors, service schedules, new services and programmes like our Apple Collection, an introduction to the new HHD Machzor which will be launched in 5779 and much, much more. And last, but certainly not least, our world famous children’s services will also be running throughout.

We wish you all a Shana Tova Umetuka and Gmar Chatimah Tovah.
