With South Africa’s notoriously high motor vehicle and pedestrian accident rate, the need for blood donations is huge. So, it’s shocking to note that so few of us donate blood: the Western Cape Blood Services (WCBS) estimates that approximately 75% of South Africans are eligible to give blood, yet only 1.5% of us actually do so.
Since one donation of blood has the potential to save up to three lives, the positive impact of becoming a donor is clear.
And it is certainly in keeping with our Jewish values. After all, we should be doing things that assist our fellow human beings – whether it’s donating money, giving of one’s time…or donating blood. It is with this sentiment that the learners from Herzlia High School have organised a Blood Drive, in conjunction with the WCBS.
The Blood Drive takes place on Thursday, 15 May, from 10am to 1.30pm.
To donate blood, one must weigh more than 50kg, and donors should be aged between 16 and 75.
In addition to donors from the school body, members of the public are invited to join in for the Blood Drive.
If you’d like to donate, send an email to Leah Rodenacker at Herzlia by clicking here.
