Yad’s real hot Vaudeville launch
The YAD Launch 2010 took place on Wednesday 3 March at VAUDEVILLE, the latest ‘hot spot’ on the Cape Town scene and HOT it certainly was. (40% in the shade).
Imagine a nightclub in Paris, a ‘Moulin Rouge’ type environment, rich red velvets and gold brocades, balconies, intimate booths, lampshades, floating cotton wool clouds and suddenly … a goddess — a vision in white, toned and tanned, glides overhead on a zip line. Giant French poodle led by an even taller owner amble over on their stilts.

2010 March
While generally the April issue is the prelude to Pesach, this year the first day of Pesach – 15 Nisan – falls on 30 March. That being so, March has to be our ‘Pesach edition’.
Tradition being a keynote to our Jewish survival, the Chronicle likewise follows a traditional approach. Rather than focusing ‘big time’ on one specific item, we traditionally feature on our front page what we see as some of the major stories of the month, with a picture or two, following up with the stories’ within the body of the paper. You will note a number of ‘see page’s on this month’s front page.

Highlands House held a most successful Golf Day at King David Golf Club on 28 January, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all — players and organisers.
The home thanks the many sponsors who gave most generously, and to all those who played, a big thank you.
Barry Rubin’s Why there isn’t peace
I’ve been having a dialogue through correspondence lately with someone describing himself as a moderate Palestinian, who lives in the United States. What most impressed me in the exchanges — both from what my interlocutor said and how he described the views of other Palestinians — is the total lack of comprehension on their part — those who live in the West Bank and Gaza Strip along with those who live elsewhere, both moderate and radical — about Israeli positions toward peacemaking, that are easily available on the public record.
Among Palestinians, as more broadly with almost all of the public in the Muslim-majority world and a lot of the elite classes in Europe, there exists a mythical Israel, reminiscent of the fabricated antisemitic stereotypes of the past, that has little to do with reality.
They believe Israel isn’t interested in peace, doesn’t offer the Palestinians anything, opposes any real Palestinian state, intends to keep the West Bank (until Israel’s withdrawal from all of the Gaza Strip they would have added that territory as well), and is led by intransigent hardliners.
